The Birth Partner

It is widely recognised that the support a woman receives during birth will influence her birthing experience and the outcome of that experience. The better support a woman receives the more relaxed she will remain and the less likely intervention will be required. Antenatal classes often fail to fully equip the birth partner on how to support a birthing Mum and in the current maternity services a partner’s support is really important as it is rare that a couple will receive continuous one to one support from a midwife throughout labour. HypnoBirthing classes teach the birth partner how to be a positive and confident partner and advocate for the birthing mother and baby.

What the Birthing Partner Will Learn on the HypnoBirthing Course

•What happens during the birth process, what a mother may experience and how to support her during different stages of labour and birth.

•Relaxation techniques to enable Mum to remain in hypnosis (deep relaxation) during birth

•How to work with medical practitioners and midwives to ensure Mum and Baby are safe and that Mum’s wishes are considered

•What questions to ask if intervention is required

•A massage technique to relax the birthing Mum

Partners need to know how to support a birthing Mum, it is sad that often the partner will stand on the side lines during birth watching and feeling helpless. Not only does this leave the partner feeling frustrated, it can also have a negative effect on the way Mum is feeling as she will react to any anxiety.

HypnoBirthing partners feel empowered and able to help bring the baby into the world.

The best way to help a birthing Mum is to know how to support her, to stay calm and relaxed and positive with her. If you are the Dad you will be able to help bring your baby into the world in an atmosphere of calm and joy – what an amazing experience!

‘The birth of our son was a totally different experience to our daughter. This time I knew how to help Karen and I was confident about what was happening. HypnoBirthing is amazing and helped me to bond with our baby far better.’ Andrew

A birthing partner can be anyone the Mum wants to be at the birth and who feels confident about supporting Mum. If you have more than one birth partner they are all welcome to attend the classes at no extra cost. If you do not feel you have the right support it may be worth considering a Doula, or speak to me personally to discuss options.
